Mitt's GOP Primary Circus
Is this any way to pick a presidential candidate? Possibly, if it works to sort out after South Carolina and Florida, an admirably worthy conservative alternative to Romney is found, or disregarding the fact that Mormons believe Jesus preached in Missouri doesn’t make Romney look any more sane. After all, one has to be a little bit crazy to run for the President of the United States anyway, huh?
There are Two Big Animals in the Room
The old saying is, "Watch out for the 800 lbs. Gorilla or 2 Ton Elephant in the room!" During this 2012 Election season, you can choose which one is Obama, but the other definitely is the Mormon LDS Church. You cannot ignore either or you will lose the 2012 Presidential Election. The Republican campaign strategy is simple, attack Obama's record while somehow deflecting the mud-slinging heresy against Mormons. Now, indeed, that is a tall order to fill since all Judeo-Christian religions are crucified by today's left-wing anti-religious zealots in the press and seated upon the judicial benches throughout the land.
A Gallup survey showed that 22% of all Americans would not vote for a Mormon for President. In comparison, 5% would not vote for a black person, 6% would not vote for a woman, 9% would not vote for a Jewish person, 22% would not vote for a Mormon, 32% would not vote for a gay or lesbian person, and 49% would not vote for an atheist. Anti-Mormon sentiment hasn't eased since it was first measured in 1967.
A Volatile Scenario - A Likely Outcome
The Romney camp and the Santorum or Gingrich choice each represent polar opposite factions of the Republican party, and I think they could do what the Republican primary hasn't done since 1976, when then-California Governor Ronald Reagan, like Massachusetts Governor Romney, ran in the primary against incumbent President Ford, like Senators Santorum or Gingrich, and just barely lost the nomination, causing Ford, like Senators Santorum or Gingrich, to lose the election in November to Jimmy Carter like Barack Obama, weaker leaders.
The Republicans better wise up & get behind their standard bearer if Barack Obama is to be defeated!
