Lee Marvin, Capt Kangaroo & Mr. Rodgers?

WHY MR. ROGERS WORE A SWEATER!

Lee MarvinSome people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, who is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4-star generals at Arlington National Cemetery. His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else.

Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time. Why the heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well, the following is the amazing answer:

I always liked Lee Marvin , but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to  be trotted out to perform.

For the cameras in war bond promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima . There is only one higher Naval award...the Medal Of  Honor! If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.

Johnny Carson

The following is a dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson ."

His guest was Lee Marvin ... Johnny said," Lee , I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ...

And that during the course of that action, you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."

"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me The Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting shot hauling you down. But, Johnny , at Iwo , I served under the bravest man I ever knew...We both got the Cross the same day,

But what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red Beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach.

Bullets were flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere, and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life.

That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi, we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, "Where'd they get you Lee ?"  I told him, "Well Bob ... If you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!"

"Johnny, I'm not lying,  Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew."  The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as the Captain KangarCaptain Kangaroooo."  Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004, at age 76 , which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27)

On another note, there was this wimpy little man. On PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers (who has now passed away) Is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he portrayed to our youth.

But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat, combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name.

Mr. Rogers wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearms and biceps.

Mr. Rogers

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and, therefore a pacifist, vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life... He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best.

They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.

Take the time to thank anyone who has fought for our freedom.

With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers!

Send this on. Nothing will happen to you if you don't,  but if you do share it, you will be awakening others  to what HERO are made of...

A Romney - Reagan Ticket to Win!

Romney has the Reagan Spirit - Alive & Well

"The late William F. Buckley Jr. naturally put it best when he said, “The wisest choice would be the one who could win. No sense running Mona Lisa in a beauty contest. I’d be for the most right, viable candidate who could win.”

Bill Buckley’s Law applies to Mitt Romney today. And it’s worth noting Rush Limbaugh’s recent update to the dictum. Following Romney’s terrific Illinois victory speech, Rush said flatly, “A conservative alternative to Romney is Romney.”

Mitt Romney cheerfully campaigns on, currently the only real outsider in the race that has not lived in Washington or been fully involved yet in the "establishment style" politics.  The most conservative candidate to run for president since another former Republican Governor, Ronald Reagan, who was also denounced back then by the Washington Establishment as "too Establishment" during his own campaign.

Mitt Romney in Massachusetts, like Ronald Reagan in California, had governed at a state level in liberal politics in a very Blue state too.  Now that, for sure, is trial by fire being a Republican in Democrat politics which builds character, experience and an understanding on how to lead while working to build a team effort of both sides to pass meaningful legislation while not giving up conservative principles!

Then Romney told us recently, “This election will be about principle. Our economic freedom will be on the ballot.” And for many months he has been talking about the battle for America’s soul, between Obama’s big-government entitlement state and his vision of a merit-based opportunity society.

This is Reagan-like. This is Paul Ryan’s American idea.
This is, in short, profoundly conservative. An election winner.

Wake up!  Are you are listening to Obama's steady drum beat during his march on the way to a 2012 victory?  Obama is desperately beating loudly to drown out the truth during this election. ...Obama cannot stand on his Presidential record!

Romney shares Reagan Spirit to Uplift & Revitalize America!

VOTE ROMNEY!

Obama's Fire Sale on Higher Kollage Education

Scopes Monkey Trial 1925 - William Jennings Bryant & Clarence Darrow.  John Scopes was tried and convicted for violating a state law prohibiting the teaching of Darwin's theory of evolution. Bryan served on the prosecution team, and Darrow defended Scopes.

I find it really humorous that Obama used the term "Social Darwinism" to describe the Republican's position on their Ryan budget proposal.

I challenge Obama to ask any of his scholarly liberals in the general public pool of unwashed blue-collar voters to define what he means.  LOL! ...Fat chance!

Those educated students are products of public schools and are not taught to read, write or study.  They are generally dumbed down with pass/no pass grades along with liberal arts subjects with no emphasis on mathematics, sciences or technologies.  Obama tells them to go to Kollege and he will pick up their tuition.  I ask, "What are they going to study if they are poor students anyway"? and I further ask, "Why bother if they graduate and cannot earn a living even with that learned knowledge"?

In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the "Elementary and Secondary Education Act" considered by many liberals to be the most ambitious effort to raise achievement levels in public schools.  In 2012, forty-seven years later, it has been a dismal failure,

In 2001, President Bush signed the “No Child Left Behind Act” which includes provisions intended to close the student achievement gap (achieve 100 percent student achievement in reading and math by the year 2014), seeks to hold public schools accountable for achieving standards of proficiency, sets standards of excellence for every child, and seeks to place a qualified teacher in every classroom. In 2012, over ten years later, it has been a dismal failure.

So, Obama implies that the Ryan Republican budget proposal is thinly veiled "Social Darwinism" which does not consider the weakest, poorest, sickest members or those middle class people who pay no income taxes are cast aside with no safety nets or social programs to assist them to survive in the American society.  Hence, Obama characterized the Ryan Republican Plan as heartless “dog eat dog” capitalism.

FYI:  "Social Darwinism"

The term originally was defined under an anthropological hierarchy theory to prove man's transition from apes to human beings. Liberal progressives as far back as Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson loosely applied under political standards to define "Social Darwinism" as "the survival of the fittest" that is embodied in the science of Eugenics.  It illustrates one sub-standard set in the human species as an inferior race.

Eugenics is “the study of, or belief in, the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics).”

This was a science embraced by the Progressive Movement that started around the time of Woodrow Wilson’s presidency. Woodrow Wilson, as President of Princeton University, approved of the practice of Jim Crow laws in the town and as President of the United States introduced Jim Crow laws in the Federal Government. Progressives feared the consequences of racial equality with 45 percent of the negro population illiterate. The idea today that Wilson and his administration would fund abortions for the poor is very plausible.

THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S SHAMEFUL PAST

To my great surprise, I found out that it was the Southern Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery.  As Francis Rice, Chairman of The National Black Republican Association (NBRA), has said, “They were the ones who passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. They started the Ku Klux Klan (the terrorist wing of the Democrat party) to lynch and terrorize blacks.”  They fought against the passage of every single civil rights law from the 1800’s through the 1960’s.

Chinese Applicants Flood U.S. Graduate Schools

This story is a blatant indictment about the middle class U.S. citizens who have the freedom to attend U.S. Graduate Schools and don't.

Sadly, American students are being dumbed down in our public schools to become scholastic underachievers. Our union public educators talk, talk, talk about teacher's tenures, health benefits and retirement programs instead of teaching skills and student welfare. Practically, the U.S. schools should be returned to the local and state governments from the grasp of the Federal Government Programs and Unions. We have to protect our children and take our country back from Washington politics.

"More than ever, Chinese students have their sights set on U.S. graduate schools. Chinese Campus College Recruiter China's expanding middle class has fueled an interest in expensive U.S. schools, as has corporations' interest in hiring local talent with Western exposure. As the quality of undergraduate institutions in China improves, more young people are also finding U.S. programs within reach. And as more Chinese students attend U.S. schools, burgeoning they encourage friends and colleagues to apply in what is called a "multiplier effect."

The outsized rate of growth in China is due in part to a concerted effort by some U.S. schools to attract Chinese students. The thinking, sayCollege Applicant Line school administrators, is that international students who stay in academia will connect U.S. schools with new research partners, while those entering the corporate world may become clients of business schools' lucrative executive education programs.

Application volume from China rose 18% for U.S. master's and doctoral programs starting this fall, according to a new report from the Council of Graduate Schools that provides a preliminary measure of application trends. Specific programs of interest include engineering, business and earth sciences.

That is on top of a 21% jump in 2011 and a 20% rise in 2010—and is the seventh consecutive year of double-digit gains from China, according to the graduate-school industry group. Applications from China now comprise nearly half of all international applications to U.S. graduate programs."

Good News - Bad News

Heightened competition from other countries are now attracting many foreign students to their higher education institutions. These countries are increasing investments in higher education, specifically in graduate programs, and viable competitors are emerging as they gain internationally recognized accreditation. So, how is the United States measuring up?

According to the Institute for International Education, the U.S. enrolled 20% of all international students—undergraduate and graduate—in higher education in 2010 ...but down from 28% in 2001.  So, projecting this myopic perspective into the near future the results become clearer close up, this hardly is something to be wildly optimistic about going forward as the International student enrollment drops.

So, does this downturn in Chinese applications now offer openings to our own U.S. citizens a chance to apply in a graduate studies program?   ...Or, can U.S. students really even qualify?
