Burt & Barack Sings Duet of Obama Swan Song

I had to laugh again when I reread a Wall Street Journal editorial page about 'What the Songwriting World Needs Now', an opinion article, January 2014, by songwriter Burt Bacharach. Apparently, Burt was really incensed that the antiquated 1941 federal licensing laws governing vinyl records still prevail over the current world of ubiquitous headphones that can access 30 million tracks through any mobile device. Under federal consent decree only two groups, Ascap and BMI, can negotiate and collect fees for songwriters from businesses.  If the parties disagree,  the Federal Judges are the arbiters that set the value of songwriters' work--instead of the open free marketplace. Hmmn... sounds like Burt is a little too greedy here? Those big Hollywood liberals sure scream when government regulations affect their pocketbooks. How do liberals think that is any different with private insurance companies setting their values through government regulations with Obamacare?

At an annual Grammy Awards Show Burt Bacharach said, "I've never seen times like we've got right now. I'm really upset. This is the future I'm leaving behind for these [my] kids, and I'm concerned. I think we've really made a mess of it. If the president had just gotten up and said, 'I made a mistake. I take full blame for it. There are no weapons of mass destruction; our information was wrong. Bear with me and we'll get through this together.' But to be stonewalled--" Bacharach shook his head, "I never like to be lied to by a girlfriend or an agent. And certainly not the president of the United States."

The Liberal Daily Kos blog then commented: "More importantly, I think Burt gave us a nice sound byte/meme to spread: "We don't like it when they are lied to by friends and family. And we certainly don't like it when we're lied to by the President."--Lather, rinse and repeat as necessary." [It deserves saying over and over again]

Disclaimer: Those comments, by the way, were spoken at the 2006 Grammy Awards Show during the Bush presidency--I wonder why six years later Burt, or the Daily Kos at the least, hasn't attacked our current President Obama about his multitude of lies when Burt met President Obama at his Gershwin awards dinner at the White House on May 9, 2012. Burt had sung a medley of favorite songs.

Burt's medley should have sounded like:

  • Barack always says "Promises, Promises" are "Any day now" while...
  • Barack is "Always something there to Remind me" of empty words that...
  • Burt swears "I'll never fall in love again" after this last 2012 election when...
  • Barack finally "Knows when to leave" as "The house is empty now" while...
  • Burt sings "I'll say a little prayer" for America because...
  • It's "What the world needs now" is a new President in the White House.

Now those are songs everyone can sing after the 2016 Elections!

Looking For The Enemy? ...Did You Vote?

POGO - Earth Day 1971 - "We have met the enemy and he is us!"

Just as Pogo clearly states in a famous vintage 1971 poster, "...the enemy is us," it was a cautionary warning about ecology over 43 years ago which said that we all must take personal responsibility for our own earth. It's still true today, but forgotten by many only two generations removed in 2014.

Nearsightedness or myopia is a vision condition in which close objects are seen clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred. As a community organizer, Obama has only laser focused on campaign fundraising for the upcoming midterm elections. Obama can't see any further because national and world affairs have politically overwhelmed him. He barely understands Domestic policy day-to-day issues due to his very limited practical experience in business and government.

Even Obamacare, his ‘touchstone’ achievement is disintegrating before his eyes. As a testimony to his self-aggrandizement for a Presidential legacy was by shoving his shoddy program down people’s throats which only proved an uber-ego disconnect—and with no ‘across-the-aisle’ votes. Obama said it was all 'partisan politics as usual' forgetting to mention the electorate was not informed and the Democrats did not read the bill before the vote.

Admittedly, the mainstream media and press corps have shielded this President during his tenure as President. The cover copy shouts media bias and attacks anyone who dares criticize Obama as dumb. How clear can that be to everyone?

Doesn't everyone now see what is the big problem?--it is us. If we first shoot ourselves in the foot, then would we do it again? ...and so we actually did it again in the last Presidential election cycle. Are we going to do it over again when the world is now spinning out of control under this President's party leadership? It's time to stop the blame, stop beating ourselves up and stop unlimited government spending--let's vote to change Washington in 2014!

A Daydream & Nightmare - Obama Horror Story

This Column really hits home with its facts, interviews and insight into Obama's Presidency as it comes to a close. Why wasn't this written up at the beginning? Easy, because Peggy Noonan in her wildest dreams could never have imagined such a quixotic fool's paradise run in the U.S. Presidential Office!

The Daydream and the Nightmare

Obama isn't doing his job. He's waiting for history to recognize his greatness.

I don't know if we sufficiently understand how weird and strange, how historically unparalleled, this presidency has become. We've got a sitting president who was just judged in a major poll to be the worst since World War II. The worst president in 70 years! Quinnipiac University's respondents also said, by 54% to 44%, that the Obama administration is not competent to run the government. A Zogby Analytics survey asked if respondents are proud or ashamed of the president. Those under 50 were proud, while those over 50, who have of course the longest experienced sense of American history, were ashamed.

We all know the reasons behind the numbers. The scandals that suggest poor stewardship and, in the case of the IRS, destructive political mischief. The president's signature legislation, which popularly bears his name and contains within it the heart of his political meaning, continues to wreak havoc in marketplaces and to be unpopular with the public. He is incapable of working with Congress, the worst at this crucial aspect of the job since Jimmy Carter, though Mr. Carter at least could work with the Mideast and produced the Camp David Accords. Mr. Obama has no regard for Republicans and doesn't like to be with Democrats. Internationally, small states that have traditionally been the locus of trouble (the Mideast) are producing more of it, while large states that have been more stable in their actions (Russia, China) are newly, starkly aggressive.

That's a long way of saying nothing's working.

Which I'm sure you've noticed.

But I'm not sure people are noticing the sheer strangeness of how the president is responding to the lack of success around him. He once seemed a serious man. He wrote books, lectured on the Constitution. Now he seems unserious, frivolous, shallow. He hangs with celebrities, plays golf. His references to Congress are merely sarcastic: "So sue me." "They don't do anything except block me. And call me names. It can't be that much fun."

In a truly stunning piece in early June, Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown and Jennifer Epstein interviewed many around the president and reported a general feeling that events have left him—well, changed. He is "taking fuller advantage of the perquisites of office," such as hosting "star-studded dinners that sometimes go on well pastmidnight." He travels, leaving the White House more in the first half of 2014 than any other time of his presidency except his re-election year. He enjoys talking to athletes and celebrities, not grubby politicians, even members of his own party. He is above it all.

On his state trip to Italy in the spring, he asked to spend time with "interesting Italians." They were wealthy, famous. The dinner went for four hours. The next morning his staff were briefing him for a "60 Minutes" interview about Ukraine and health care. "One aide paraphrased Obama's response: 'Just last night I was talking about life and art, big interesting things, and now we're back to the minuscule things on politics.' ''

Minuscule? Politics is his job.

When the crisis in Ukraine escalated in March, White House aides wondered if Mr. Obama should cancel a planned weekend golf getaway in Florida. He went. At the "lush Ocean Reef Club," he reportedly told his dinner companions: "I needed this. I needed the golf. I needed to laugh. I needed to spend time with friends."

You get the impression his needs are pretty important in his hierarchy of concerns.

This is a president with 2½ years to go who shows every sign of running out the clock. Normally in a game you run out the clock when you're winning. He's running it out when he's losing.

All this is weird, unprecedented. The president shows no sign—none—of being overwhelmingly concerned and anxious at his predicaments or challenges. Every president before him would have been. They'd be questioning what they're doing wrong, changing tack. They'd be ordering frantic aides to meet and come up with what to change, how to change it, how to find common ground not only with Congress but with the electorate.

Instead he seems disinterested, disengaged almost to the point of disembodied. He is fatalistic, passive, minimalist. He talks about hitting "singles" and "doubles" in foreign policy.

"The world seems to disappoint him," says the New Yorker's liberal and sympathetic editor, David Remnick.

What kind of illusions do you have to have about the world to be disappointed when it, and its players, act aggressively or foolishly? Presidents aren't supposed to have those illusions, and they're not supposed to check out psychologically when their illusions are shattered.

Barack Obama doesn't seem to care about his unpopularity, or the decisions he's made that have not turned out well. He doesn't seem concerned. A guess at the reason: He thinks he is right about his essential policies. He is steering the world toward not relying on America. He is steering America toward greater dependence on and allegiance to government. He is creating a more federally controlled, Washington-centric nation that is run and organized by progressives. He thinks he's done his work, set America on a leftward course, and though his poll numbers are down now, history will look back on him and see him as heroic, realistic, using his phone and pen each day in spite of unprecedented resistance. He is Lincoln, scorned in his time but loved by history.

He thinks he is in line with the arc of history, that America, for all its stops and starts, for all the recent Supreme Court rulings, has embarked in the long term on governmental and cultural progressivism. Thus in time history will have the wisdom to look back and see him for what he really was: the great one who took every sling and arrow, who endured rising unpopularity, the first black president and the only one made to suffer like this.

That's what he's doing by running out the clock: He's waiting for history to get its act together and see his true size.

He's like someone who's constantly running the movie "Lincoln" in his head. It made a great impression on him, that movie. He told Time magazine, and Mr. Remnick, how much it struck him. President Lincoln of course had been badly abused in his time. Now his greatness is universally acknowledged. But if Mr. Obama read more of Lincoln, he might notice Lincoln's modesty, his plain ways, his willingness every day to work and negotiate with all who opposed him, from radical abolitionists who thought him too slow to supporters of a negotiated peace who thought him too martial. Lincoln showed respect for others. Those who loved him and worked for him thought he showed too much. He was witty and comical but not frivolous and never shallow. He didn't say, "So sue me." He never gave up trying to reach agreement and resolution.

It is weird to have a president who has given up. So many young journalists diligently covering this White House, especially those for whom it is their first, think what they're seeing is normal.

It is not. It is unprecedented and deeply strange. And, because the world is watching and calculating, unbelievably dangerous.

It Doesn't Take A Psychic To See Obama's Future

Question: Haven't you seen people that you know what they're going to do before anything happens?  Sounds psychic, mysticalCarnac the Magnificant and clairvoyant; but in practice, it's just the art of listening! So, put down your smart phones, tablets, iPods and pull out your ear buds to listen to what is being said directly to you, the electorate.

You are being warned repeatedly by this President about his threats to the checks and balances in our Constitutional Government. The United States was never intended to be a parliamentary system and yet Obama ignores the two other branches of government - the Judiciary and Congress.

Dictator Benito Mussolini - "Il Duce" ("the Leader") Created the Fascist Party in Italy.Obama is rebalancing the system toward a "national-leader model" that is alien to the American tradition.  It is Meta-leadership, a model to build government connectivity, overarching leadership that intentionally connects the purposes and work of different organizations or organizational units. Thinking and operating beyond their immediate scope of authority as the titular head, the meta-leader entirely provides guidance, direction, and momentum across organizational lines that develop into a shared course of action and a commonality of purpose among people and agencies that are doing what may appear to be very different work to leverage system assets, information, and capacities, particularly critical functions for government. It is not democratic governance by or for the people, but autocratic leadership merging into unbridled totalitarian rule that imperiously seeks to control all aspects of public and private life whenever necessary for the common good of all the people.

A "national-leader model" is not a constitutional democracy that is constrained and limited by ingrained bureaucratic patterns of behavior. A constitutional democracy has a judiciary branch of justices making decisions based on constitutional laws and a legislative branch of representatives of the people who are proposing, passing and signing into law legislation that is mandating, establishing or regulating society as a check and balance to counter the powers of the President in the executive branch who is administering the legislation to uphold the will of the people.

So, Obama's vision of our nation's future is devoid of any individual constitutional rights, infrastructure or guidelines, a country that truly is without misconceptions - what you see is what you get - and it ain't much, as the government excesses and largess drains its treasury to rob its citizens of their wealth, freedom and future. It is a battle of redefining the government's role as a servant of the people verses growing the over-powerful, ever-oppressant, bloated, centralized federal nanny-state bureaucracy redistributing wealth.

Relying on many to forget, it was just back during the 2010 State of the Union Speech that Obama denounced the Supreme Court Justices seated in front of him. Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. winced at Obama's accusation and muttered, "Not true" under his breath, as he respectively remained quietly seated. Obama was extremely rude many said; an act of intimidation of one branch of government by another. Obama's repeated flouting of their decisions on labor issues and voting rights with Eric Holder are undermining its institutional authority, as Obama intended.

Obama and the punditocracy, his opinionated expert savants, branded House Republicans as "GRIDLOCK". This condemnation is true about "The House of Representatives", the one branch of government "representing the views of all Americans", which is chosen by this electorate to vote for them - So Obama is directly blaming the American people for all his gridlock problems with the code word "Congress".

Obama criticizes Congress, which is the American people themselves, as he mocks them over and over again by saying things like they have: "the endless parade of distractions", "political posturing", "made things worse", "ignored problems", "manufactured crises" and "created phony scandals".  Obama excoriates his "Congressional bogeymen" while standing arms length away from their supporters in order to still pander for their votes in the upcoming mid-term elections - it will be a big game changer if Obama loses his political clout, his cache', in attracting voter turnout and more donations.

Obama has at least four references in a recent speech to his intent to act on his own authority, as he interprets it: "That means whatever executive authority I have to help the middle class, I'll use it." (Applause.) And: "We're going to do everything we can, wherever we can, with or without Congress." (Applause.) (July 24, 2013 speech at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.) It's very painful watching an audience applaud as Obama punches them in the face by attacking their chosen, duly elected "Congressmen" that Obama now has deemed to "put party and politics over the nation interests". Twisting the facts to the contrary, however, will not deny that it's still the will of the people's "Congressional Representatives" who are putting the national interests first over Obama's own party and partisan politics.

But in this administration, Obama is now free-wheeling on his own Presidential fiat that guarantees him open range on whatever he decides to do. That is up to and including dumping any laws as passed by congress or whether he is obligated to execute any laws either.

An unchecked, unbalanced Presidential system finally arrives!

Is the U.S. a Democracy or Obamaocracy?

A Scandal is Not a Scandal

While watching the May 26, 2013 Fox News Sunday show, Christy Setzer commented on the Obama Scandal Trifecta festering in the headlines this week. Looking directly into the camera, her take without any hesitation, a blink of an eye or even a sideways glance said, "The republicans are focused as closely on these scandals as on the Monica Lewensky scandal." The understood conclusion was that these scandals carried no real political weight or more importance than a sexual tryst that Clinton allegedly did years ago.

Actually, the conclusion is wrong and it brought to one's mind the famous Clintonian answer under oath, "It depends on what "it" is!" and that reveals a lot.  The striking similarity is Obama's parsing answers about his own picadillos. Who or what is Christy Setzer that so skillfully brought out her rhetorical scalpel in an attempt to castrate these scandals before everyone's eyes rendering them neutered?

Bill Clinton did not get out unscathed from his Monica mess. His actions to avoid further legal problems included penalties and fines. He still carries his own personal embarrassment and moral controversies too.

  • On April 12, 1999,  Clinton found in contempt of court for “intentionally false” testimony in Jones v. Clinton, fined him $90,000, and referred the case to the Arkansas Supreme Court’s Committee on Professional Conduct, as Clinton still possessed a law license in Arkansas.
  • The Arkansas Supreme Court suspended Clinton’s Arkansas law license in April 2000.
  •  On January 19, 2001, Clinton agreed to a five-year suspension and a $25,000 fine in order to avoid disbarment and to end the investigation of Independent Counsel Robert Ray (Starr’s successor).
  • On October 1, 2001, Clinton’s U.S. Supreme Court law license was suspended, with 40 days to contest his disbarment.
  • On November 9, 2001, the last day for Clinton to contest the disbarment, he opted to resign from the Supreme Court Bar, surrendering his license, rather than facing penalties related to disbarment.

Some interesting corollaries: Understanding life that is not a court of law, but is a court of public opinion, it appears that public opinion still matters a lot. By surrendering his law license, Bill Clinton could resign his Supreme Court license in order to avoid disbarment. He was suspended in Arkansas, but not disbarred.

With respect to the Obamas’ licenses to practice law: (1) Michelle Obama went inactive in 1994, despite a Harvard Law School degree, which is very strange, unless she was doing so to avoid a hearing on something; (2) Barack Obama “retired” in January 2008. About that time, Barack was starting to run for the Senate and beyond. If anyone recalls then, Barack'sTony Rezco & Obama shady Tony Rezco Chicago home real estate deal, Michelle's lavish credit card over-the-top spending and Barack's questionable Chicago Federal Housing Urban Renewal Project awards with Valerie Jarrett were flying around at the time with the corrupt Illinois Combine political party machine connections. Barack even admitted his Rescko home real estate deal was "bone-headed" which rang true as just a corrupt kickback pay-off scheme.

No one is saying that the Obamas were ever formally charged with misconduct, but some argue that the most plausible reason for their having abandoned their licenses was to avoid disciplinary action and the threat of public disbarment. That was what both Nixon and Clinton fully understood and the Obamas as well. It was still peculiar for two people walking away from the lifetime income and prestige to be gained by certification by Harvard Law School. It is all informal. You are allowed to depart gracefully. No hard feelings. Michelle Obama was 29 when she quit (went inactive). The Bar granted her this request when she turned 30. Afterwards, they both instead ran for the highest office in the land. I'll bet their handlers and backers said to get rid of the law licences pronto to avoid any stains of questionable, dirty Chicago-style corruption.

Background Check: Christy Setzer, is President of her own firm, New Heights Communications deals with public relations in liberal-left wing political, advocacy and corporate arenas.  She is a former spokesperson at the liberal-left, SEIU, Service Employees International Union and girlfriend of Rodell Mollineau, staff director for Democrat, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Earlier I brought up the question about who or what is Christy Setzer and I believe her resume speaks for itself. LOL!  Christy is a very uber-liberal spokeswoman who launched into well planned and effectively executed public relations messages for the Democrat Party.
